I can't believe we are a little over a quarter of the way through 2018 already.

This is going to be a year of major changes for me.

My "babies" graduate from high school in 7 weeks.

They will be heading off to college in approximately 4 months.

I will be turning the big "5-0" in 5 1/2 months.

I have decided to start blogging again to document these and other events. Sure I have Instagram and Facebook but this is where I can come back to read my thoughts and updates. I'm not on Facebook as much anymore because it has turned so political and on my Instagram I mostly just post my workouts.

But here - on my blog - I'm going to post about anything going on in my life.

I had thought about starting a whole new blog and making it private for just me to view but I decided against it. I don't have many followers anyway and the ones I do have probably don't even read blogs anymore. lol

Feel free to unfollow if you wish - from here on - I'll probably just be rambling to myself about my life 😊

New plan, New start

Yesterday was my start of the new Weight Watchers freestyle plan. It’s also going to have to be the start of my new weight loss plan.

I struggled so much with the old WW smart points plan. I’m actually a pound heavier right now than when I restarted going to meetings back in May. I have always felt that the old plan was too restrictive and felt like a diet. I used to be so hungry on that plan. After a couple of days I would find myself not tracking until my next weigh in and then be pissed off that I hadn’t lost much if any weight.

This time around I have higher hopes for success on this new plan. For one- they’ve increased the amount of zero point foods to include whole eggs, chicken breast, fish, beans, nonfat plain Greek yogurt to name a few. None of the zero point foods even have to be weighed or tracked!!

My daily points did go down because of all of these zero point foods. But on the new plan you can carry over up to 4 unused points A DAY to use for occasions when you know you may want to eat more than usual.

I’m excited about this new plan- less tracking, more zero point foods and the ability to carry over points for special occasions! All of these sound like wins in my book. I just hope the scale will cooperate!

We paid a visit to the 'rent-in-laws over the Fourth of July weekend.

Patriotic much?

We also had our friend and her fiance over. Thankfully he's doing better and they were still able to get married in a small private service with just the two of them. They're now planning a reception for later in the year.

I've been friends with these girls for over 30 years and we always have a great time when we do get together.

And the laughter continues...

Until she puts the first little ding in her car...

I had a mom's night out. We went to dinner and a comedy show.

Funniest show. We laughed so hard!

The work month ended with a happy hour with co-workers at a new to me place - Barcelona Wine Bar. The wine I initially ordered wasn't that great - but this little tequila drink in the middle that I ordered next was total YUM!

I spent the last weekend of this month by myself. Hubby is out of town, my teens are at their dad's. It rained from Friday after work through Saturday evening so I stayed inside the house. Now I'm restless and ready to get out tomorrow. I have errands to run and stuff to do around the house but it's nice to just veg out on the couch every once in awhile.

Now that the ole blog is all caught up with my happenings maybe I can keep it up? lol Yeah right - wishful thinking on my part.

My month of June started with the Baltimore 10 Miler race. By working with my running coach I was able to take 8 minutes off of last year's time!

Hubby went to pick up my packet for me a couple of days before the race because I was working late and he signed up at the last minute to run it too!

At the end of June we traveled to the Dominican Republic. I was supposed to be a bridesmaid in my friend's destination wedding but 6 days before our flight - she called to tell me that her fiance had a blood clot and wasn't allowed to fly for 2 weeks so they weren't going to be able to go.

Since we had already paid for the trip and requested the time off from work - we still went ahead with our plans to go with my friend's blessing.

The first resort we stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana was where the wedding was supposed to take place. The resort was amazing. We had booked a villa and we were right.on.the.water.

View from our rear balcony

One of my other friend's and her husband still went ahead with their plans to go as well. We have been friends since high school and this was the first vacation we had taken together - let alone with our spouses!

The husbands had met before a couple of times but it was awesome that they got along as well as me and my girlfriend. We have already decided that the four of us are going to vacation again together in two years.

After four days we checked out of Sanctuary and into Secrets. I can definitely say that I have outgrown THAT Secrets location. I'm not going to say yet that I have outgrown all of the Secrets locations because a couple of years ago we stayed at a Secrets resort in Jamaica and it was amazing. This resort - not so much. There was a bunch of young, rowdy drunk people and the food wasn't good. The resort is pretty new and modern so the room was nice and fortunately for us we had paid extra for the preferred privileges so we were able to go to the quieter pool and and beach.

The nine days hubby and I had in the Dominican were just what we needed. We kind of wrapped it into an early anniversary present to ourselves. We were able to hang out with friends and then hang out with just each other - it was the perfect way to vacation.

May Days

I've been in the house alone for the past 24 hours. Hubby is out of town, the teens are at their dad's house, and it has been raining like crazy since yesterday afternoon.

I've cleaned out my email account, watched 3 Lifetime movies I had in the dvr, finished my latest book, run 3 miles on the treadmill, and cleaned out my bloglovin reading list. I was cleaning out my google photos when I decided I may as well update the ole blog with some of the pictures I have taken.

Back to a time...

- When my son was in another one of his plays

- My mini was still playing soccer

- Hubby invited me to a military spouse appreciation lunch at his base

- My teens treated me to breakfast in bed for Mother's Day

- Then the family took me to one of my favorite restaurants for dinner

- I finally jumped on the LipSense craze. Although the color I bought was beautiful and that stuff really does as it says and stays on - I found it too drying for my lips for every day use.

Coming up next - what happened in June...

Now What?

It has been exactly 5 weeks since I wrote a blog post.

Unfortunately my experience with South Beach Diet didn't last much longer after that post.

I hate "dieting". I'm not good at it (obviously). I hate feeling like I'm depriving myself. But at the same time I truly want to lose weight. There HAS to be something that is going to work for me.

After South Beach I went back to counting calories on MyFitness Pal. Then I went back to counting Points Plus on the Ultimate Food Value Diary app.

Then I did nothing for awhile. And today... 7 weeks until I leave for vacation... I am back on MyFitness Pal counting calories. Weight loss is basically calories in vs calories out right? So I just need to be more diligent about tracking consistently and eating less calories and burning more.

In other happenings...

It is still soccer season.

I ran a 10K (after this text exchange with my dad):

And then right after the race I went to my friend's bridal shower

Hubby is doing some Spring landscaping - he built that rock wall!

My baby boy started his first job

Frozen yogurt season has started in my household

I got hubby out for a run with me!

We've had some pretty nice weather!

Life has been busy - both at work and at home. I can't tell you much I am looking forward to my 9 day vacation in June!

Another South Beach Weekend off plan (Days 26 and 27)

Saturday, March 25

Saturday was definitely an off-South Beach day.

The only thing I had in the morning with my coffee was a sandwich thin with natural peanut butter.

In the afternoon hubby and I went to the casino where I had quite a few Michelob Ultras. Then in the evening my best friend came over to hangout and I had a couple of vodkas with diet cranberry before hubby ordered us pizza.

Sunday, March 26

Fortunately I didn't wake up with a hangover! I downed a cup of coffee and another sandwich thin with natural peanut butter before my best friend and I headed out to The African American History Museum in DC for the day.

We toured the museum for a couple of hours before we finally took a lunch break at the cafe. I was famished and everything looked so good. I totally indulged - heck - it's not like I'll have another opportunity to go back to the museum for at least 4 months (timed entry tickets are available again in April for July admissions).

I had the fried chicken with 2 sides (macaroni & cheese and potato salad) and I added corn bread and pecan pie for dessert.

After we ate lunch we continued to tour the museum for a couple more hours (I'll post about that in a separate post).

When we finally got back home I had to run out and pick up my kids from their dad. Hubby had flown out in the morning for work but he had cooked spaghetti sauce on Saturday afternoon for me and the teens to eat because he knew I would be rushing around on Sunday evening and he was right.

Believe it or not - after all the food I ate earlier at lunchtime I was hungry again for dinner. I cooked whole grain spaghetti noodles (for my teens) and spaghetti squash noodles (for me). I ended up mixing them together.

Monday I will get back on track with South Beach because I thoroughly fell off the South Beach wagon over the weekend.
