Memorial Day fun

Jamie and I took the kids GoKarting on Memorial Day with a Groupon I had that was about to expire. It was HOT but we had fun! Afterwards we went to the mall for a snack and I had a frozen yogurt. I'm loving frozen yogurt with fresh fruit & nuts as a topping this summer!


Sunday May 27th was my 1st 5K of the season and I PR'd it!!
The days leading up to it I was pretty nervous. I felt like I hadn't done enough outdoor running. The only outdoor run I did so far this year was the Friday before the 5K and that took me 41 min. Come on - even my 1st 5K 2 years ago I ran in 39 min!!

The night before the race Jamie & I hung out in Baltimore. I had 3 beers and some cheeseburger sliders & fries - not exactly a "runner's pre-race meal". We got a late start leaving the house on race day and ended up running around to pick up our packets & numbers, just barely making it to the starting line in time for the race to begin!

The race was through downtown Baltimore. There were a couple of hills that I had to walk part of but next year I WILL MAKE THEM MINE! I finished the race way faster than I expected - 37:36!!  We're already looking for a June race to run. 

New yogurt obsession

I'm just loving this Fage yogurt that has the 2 compartments that you can mix together. I'm Chobani'd out right now so this is a good greek yogurt substitute for me to bring to work for my lunches.

Office sabotage

Ever have someone in the office who always brings in baked goods from home? I have one and it's my boss - the president of our company. I resisted this batch he brought in. It looked like some sort of blueberry something and brownies. I think he brings in baked goods at least twice a month! Grrr....

Summer is almost here!

How cute is this bag? I saw it at Barnes & Noble yesterday and HAD to have it. It's going to be perfect for taking to the pool! It was "on sale" for $9.95 if you bought two other items otherwise it would be $24.95 if you bought it on it's own. They also had blue but the pink was so much cuter! Since each kid needed a book for school it worked out perfect for all of us!

8 weeks left!

In 8 weeks exactly I will be a married woman!!! The scale was a little heavier than I would have liked this morning but I've got time - I've got this! I know I do! The beer and pizza last night didn't help this mornings scale number but it sure was good and that is life sometimes.
I'm getting ready to mix up my workouts. I'm not loving P90X. The program is just too time consuming for me and in the 1st 3 weeks of the program I don't like 2 of the 6 workouts (yoga & kenpo) that you do on a weekly basis. Next Wednesday morning I'm going to a free trial of bootcamp 5 minutes from our house. Also I have a Groupon for 30 free classes to use by October so I may try some beginner yoga & kettlebell classes in the area. Then there's also the actual gym I'm a member of that has classes I can explore - namely spinning & water aerobics. PLUS... we're signed up for a 5K in exactly 8 days!! 
Yesterday was the 1st attempt at running I've done in quite awhile.  It was tough! I walked more than I would have liked. Next week will be running days for me on Monday, Wednesday and Friday with the 5K on Sunday. Interesting... I just noticed boot camp is Wednesday morning and I'm supposed to be running that day too. We'll also be off site for work all day Wednesday so I'll make that an outdoor, after work run.
Thursday ought to be quite painful for me.

Newbie blogger mistake

Well, well, well... all my photos have disappeared from previous blog posts. Turns out - yesterday I somehow activated myself on Google+, then I saw all the pictures that I had previously deleted from my phone were saved on Google+ so I deleted them and I guess they were linked to my blog because now they're all gone. I cancelled Google+ because I'm not even sure what it is and I don't think I have an actual need for it. I need to start carrying my actual camera with me and using those pictures because I'm sure they will be a lot more clear than the ones taken on the phone.

Office birthdays & inconsiderate ex-spouses

Yesterday was my boss' birthday so of course we had to have cupcakes. They were from Hello Cupcake and each one is easily 300+ calories.  Mine was good.  Not awesome.  I should have just eaten half.
The ex brought the kids back from his dinner with them over an hour and a half late which ticked me off and caused me to pour myself an extra glass of wine & chomp on some Trader Joes crackers that I really didn't need while I waited. And waited. And waited.
The good things from yesterday though are - I did get to the gym at lunchtime and I did address and mail out our wedding invitations!!

Nothing like stepping on the scale and seeing a 5 lb weight gain over the past week of no workouts or tracking of food to get me motivated again! Just because the dress fitting went well last week doesn't mean I should stop what I've been doing - afterall I do have to get back into my dress in 3 weeks when I pick it up after it has all been taken in!

Blogging is tough to keep up with- especially when you're really on the go! I haven't worked out since last Tuesday but Jamie and I have done a lot of wedding stuff! We booked our honeymoon!! We bought our wedding rings! We ordered our cake! We're really moving along!  The only things left are hiring a photographer and a florist!

We had a fun, long weekend of taking care of wedding stuff, hanging out and drinking one too many margaritas one night, and taking care of house stuff (him = lawn and sprinkler stuff, me = unpacking our home office). I bought a new laptop because my last one got a virus so I'll be playing around on that soon. I also bought a new scanner. The old laptop I'm having the Geek Squad fix and then I'll let the kids use it as theirs.

Today I plan to tweak my exercise schedule to adjust for the week of non-working out I just had. Maybe tonight I'll actually try to update my food in MyFitness Pal too since I did bring healthy food in to work today which is easy to track!

MyFitness Pal

Wednesday night I downloaded the MyFitness Pal app for android. I've read good reviews on it & can't wait to get started on it. It has a cool barcoding tool that when you scan a food you can automatically add it to your food journal. The only downside is that all my favorites/most eaten foods are all saved in Sparkpeople so it may take a little while to get used to the new app.

Bad blogger, bad blogger

My last blog post was Saturday, May 5th - not ideal. I need to get in the habit of just posting randomly whenever I feel I have something to say rather than trying to wait and post a once a day update - life so often gets away from me that I forget to post ablout it. Also, I need to take more pictures :-)

Over the weekend I did get in the P90X Legs & Back dvd on Saturday

I like this workout. It has the normal 10 minute warm-up followed by 45 minutes of the actual routine and a 4 minute cooldown. The equipment needed for this dvd were weights (or bands) and a pull-up bar (or bands - I used bands - I still can't manage to do a pull-up). The one exercise I hated the most was called "Single Leg Wall Squats" - talk about OUCH! I only lasted about 3 minutes into the Ab Ripper X sectionat the end of the dvd - talk about killer - before my muscles started cramping. My ab muscles are soooooo weak!

On Sunday my legs were "feeling the burn" from the Legs and Back dvd but I still ventured on to my 1st try at P90X Kenpo X

Ummmm... I hated it. It was way too advanced for me with not a lot of instruction directed at modifying moves for beginners to Kenpo. It's basically Tony Horton's version of kickboxing/tae bo. I lasted exactly 18 minutes of the dvd, popped it out and inserted an old Tae Bo dvd - Tae Bo Amped Turbo Charged Fat Burner. The dvd run time said the run time was 23 minutes but the actual dvd ran 30 minutes. It was a good workout. This is one of the dvds in the series Billy Blanks put out awhile ago that uses a weighted red bar he calls the amplifier. I didn't use the bar this time though as I was still getting reacquainted with his moves since it has been so long since I've done Tae Bo. Even without the bar - I still worked up a good sweat!

Most of the weekend I ate pretty healthy but Sunday night we went to Hooters and I plenty of wings and a couple of drinks.

Monday I ate pretty healthy again most of the day (no workout though) but then ate a big ole' steak with cheese pasta for dinner.

Tuesday - once again I was on the healthy track (even got in a 30 minute lunchtime treadmill walk) but then after my dress fitting - my maid of honor and I came back to the house and had a couple of beers, a handful of chips and some baked crackers. That was basically my "dinner". The good news is that my dress fitting went awesome! The seamstress has to take in the hips and the waist of my dress so I must be on the right track! There's still a ton of wedding related stuff to accomplish though!

I did it - well most of it.

Last night I did the P90X chest & shoulders dvd. I didn't do the last 15 minutes (Ab Ripper X) because the kids were downstairs doing their homework & I felt like I needed to check on them. Good thing too because my daughter either had a whole lot or was goofing off while I was working out because she was up forever!
The part of the dvd I did was 60 minutes in length. It only required hand weights (I used 8lb most of the time & switched to the 5 lb for most of the tricep/kickback workouts) and a chair. There was a 10 minute warm-up and a 3 1/2 minute cooldown. There was also a 10 minute "bonus round" the last 10 minutes.
Today's scheduled P90X workout was Yoga and I already posted how I feel about that dvd so I skipped P90X today and did my interval treadmill run during my lunch break.

May is off to a pretty good start! This morning's weigh-in I was down a pound - YIPPEE!! I cancelled my Weight Watchers on-line account May1st so now I'm tracking in Sparkpeople. First 2 days of this month I've been able to stay on-track for all my nutritional goals AND I got in 2 lunchtime workouts - treadmill walk on May1st and treadmill interval runs on May 2nd. I STILL haven't been able to fit in P90X - hoping to get it in tonight - Shoulders & Arms is on the schedule

Goodbye April

Well, my last day of April didn't go at all as expected.

We missed the school bus in the morning so I was late to work, hurriedly ate a quick breakfast I brought from home (sandwich thin w/ laughing cow cheese & a morningstar farm breakfast sausage and an apple), had a work convention to attend for the day so endied up eating a turkey sub and chips at the booth and then waited too long in between since I didn't pack any snacks and overate at dinner.

I cooked chicken sausages, a noodles/cheddar/broccoli package and some green beans. Then I reasoned with myself since I already ate the processed stuff I may as well have some ice cream and proceeded to do so with no workout whatsover for the entire day!
