Ready For Spring

I haven't blogged in two weeks. Not like I'm a consistent blogger anyway but two weeks makes it pretty hard to play catch-up.

This awful weather has been making it hard to do anything. It's been hard for me to consistently get in my 10K steps a day, it's been hard for me to stick to my half-marathon training plan. I'm just ready for it to warm-up and stop snowing!

Early for a dr appt calls for Starbucks in the car

Clean bill of health at my physical

It's never too cold for frozen yogurt with the kiddos

At least I'm still tracking my meals - even the bad days!

I've tried some new recipes

Beef Lo Mein for the win

Red Bean Chili was another good recipe

Still don't understand what the Olympic sport Curling is all about

Watching Olympic Figure Skating while running on the treadmill made me speedy!

Picked up a pack of these at Target. Ate four that very night and brought the rest in to work!

MORE snow.

Hubby just happened to be away on business and was able to cut his trip short in order to be home with me for the snow storm.

I'm getting tired of taking this same ole snow picture!

Yep - that's a ruler in there. We got a foot of now.

Thankfully the neighbors were sweet enough to snow blow and shovel the driveway. Hubby was asleep still from his jet lag.

I did finally get to break out the snow boots I bought two years ago and hadn't worn yet.

Hubby and I walked around the neighborhood. I guess one neighbor hired a private contractor with a bobcat to shovel out their snow.

The road was semi-done

But the mail lady still managed to get us our mail.

When we got home it was wine time.

With some comfort food.

Three cheese pasts bake

After the blue bottle moscato was gone I tried the Skinnygirl brand. Blech. It wasn't even sweet. I thought all Moscatos were sweet. This one is still sitting in the refrigerator a week later. It will probably end up down the drain by the end of the weekend even though I hate to waste alcohol!

Snow Day Soduku puzzles with hubby

And then the next day we only had a 2 hour delay to get into work even though all the streets, parking lots and sidewalks weren't all clear.

I did use my delay to work on my steps and get in a workout before work.

7,500 steps before work - I'll take it!

This year the concierge at my office building was offering the Phillip's Seafood Valentine's Special again. For 100 bucks we got 2 lobsters, shrimp, oysters, mussels, red potatoes and corn on the cob. It was so filling and a fun time cooking it together.

When I first got home and walked in hubby had this waiting for me!

Each heart has a reason why he loves me! Isn't he the greatest?

Saturday night we had date night. We went to Baltimore for dinner and to catch a comedy show.

Followed by drinks at an outdoor bar - IN THE COLD!!

Monday I incorporated a new workout to my routine. I'm going to add some of the Bikini Body Mommy 90 Day Challenge workouts from YouTube for some variety.

Yesterday I added in a Fitness Blender workout in addition to giving P90X3 another shot.

And if that wasn't enough - hubby went with me after dinner for a walk in our neighborhood to make sure I hit my 10K steps for the day.

Now that we're all caught up I hope to stay caught up with my updates.

Next step is for me to catch up on all of my Bloglovin reading. I'm way behind in those too!

Second Longest Run

Last Friday night hubby was out of town for work. I stayed home and made it a quiet night, I had a 6 1/2 mile half marathon training run to rest up for on Saturday.

I may or may not have stayed up too late catching up on reading blogs and starting the new book I downloaded - "Divergent".

Divergent (Divergent Series)

Once I finally did wake up and get my day planned out I headed over to Fort Meade for my run. It was a nice 40-something degree day which I find perfect running weather. I don't get too hot or too cold when the temperature is in the 40s.

The run went pretty well. I did struggle after about mile 5 and think I should probably look into some sort of fuel type for my longer runs. I know I have an 8 mile run coming up in 2 weeks. Yikes!

Mission Accomplished!

After my run I went home to shower and then headed to the commissary to do our grocery shopping. This week's shop was a big one! I had 3 new recipes I wanted to try and of course each one had a couple of specific ingredients we didn't have on hand.

The commissary was chaotic because not only were the weather reports calling for snow on Monday but it was also the day before the SuperBowl. I had planned to get home before hubby but that didn't work out for me. He went ahead and ordered pizza and wings for dinner which was good because my legs desperately needed a rest by the time I got home.

I set a personal FitBit record and ended the day with over 16K steps thanks to my run!

Sunday was another nice day weatherwise. While hubby went to get the cars washed I put on my workout gear and headed out in the neighborhood for a walk. I wanted to get my steps in before the SuperBowl. I set a personal goal for February to walk 10K steps each day.

It was another nice day and instead of music I downloaded and listened to a Podcast of the Jillian Michaels Show from years ago.

By the time the podcast was over I had walked 3.29 miles and was back home. I stopped in the house to drink some water and go to the bathroom for a mini break and then headed out again for more steps. I only had about 6K steps by then.

I walked a little over 3 more miles until my FitBit Flex bracelet buzzed to let me know that I had walked 10K steps. By noon!

I had to go to the grocery store and then the health food store for the last few items on my grocery list that I couldn't find at the commissary.

After that I showered and put on my sweats and waited patiently, yet nervously for the game. My Seahawks are playing the Broncos and I was pretty nervous about us facing Peyton Manning.

In the end it would appear I had nothing to worry about. The Broncos played terribly and by the end of the 3rd quarter I could finally breathe because I knew we were going to win.

I ended SuperBowl Sunday with over 13K steps!

I had scheduled off on Monday because I wasn't sure how late the SuperBowl was going to last and how I was going to feel.

I still had to wake up and get the kiddos up and to school but after I dropped them off I rolled up to the Starbucks drive-thru window. Best invention ever on a rainy cold day!

I did a little meal prepping for the week and threw 2 new recipes in the crockpot.

Sesame chicken

Next time I'll know to sprinkle the chicken with the sesame seeds AFTER it's done. The sesame seeds ended up staying in the crockpot when it was time to take the chicken pieces out. They were stuck in the leftover sauce.

Sweet and sour flank steak

I didn't buy the flank steak at the commissary because it was expensive so I planned on going to Sam's Club on Sunday to see if it would be cheaper there. Instead hubby went to Sam's Club, saw it on the list, and bought it.

I would have never bought it if I would have seen how expensive it was. I've never bought or cooked with flank steak before so I had no clue as to the price. I would have substituted a cheaper cut of meat for the recipes since the crockpot can make inexpensive cuts of meat turn out tender. But hubby didn't know that was my plan. All he knew was that flank steak was on the list so he bought it. I can't complain about that at all - he's a sweetie for always trying to help me out!

I didn't have many steps in for the day by the time I was done crockpot prepping and I didn't feel like driving to the gym to get on the treadmill so I popped in a Walk at Home 5K dvd.

After that I went and picked the kiddos up and came home and did another 30 minutes of a different Walk Away the Pounds dvd until I reached my 10K steps.

After dinner it was time to blow dry and flat iron my daughter's hair. I don't know where she gets all that hair from! ;-)

Tuesday was back to work time. The work day was busy for me but I still managed to go to the gym in the late afternoon and run for 30 minutes on the treadmill.

Which helped me finish the day with my 10K steps! 3 days in a row!

Let's Wrap Up This Month!

The last two weeks of January have been all over the place for me.

We were all off for Martin Luther King Jr's Birthday holiday. Hubby and I took the kiddos to lunch

and then to Ikea to do some finishing up of updating their bedrooms.

The next day both school and work were closed due to an expected snow storm. This is how it looked outside when we first woke up.

But then the snow finally came.

And we ended up with quite a bit of the white stuff.

Even though we were home for the day I was determined to get a workout in before I went outside in the snow with the kiddos. I got some steps in with my Leslie Sansone dvd. I did the 2 mile Fast Start AND the 3 Fast Miles workouts. Then I did a Fitness Blender HIIT workout to up my calorie burn. Although I love the Walk Away the Pounds dvds for getting my step count up - they're so low impact that I don't get a very high calorie burn from them.

On Wednesday the schools were still closed due to the snow so I stayed home with the kiddos.

Thursday was weigh-in day.

My weight was up almost two pounds! I was so frustrated!

And instead of reeling myself in what do I do? The very next day at a work seminar I helped myself to banana bread with butter as part of the continental breakfast they provided.

And the following day my friend at work brought me a 7 layer dip which I brought home for me and the family to devour. Before dinner.

So after a week of snow days and snow delays preventing me from getting in decent lunchtime workouts - I decided to tackle Jillian. I did her 6 Pack Abs workout off of You Tube

and then foolish me decided to try to do P90X3 Yoga dvd.

I only lasted 10 minutes. Tony Horton's Yoga is TOUGH! I am NOT flexible. I need to find a beginner Yoga dvd to attempt.

Saturday night the four of us went bowling. We bowled 3 games. The first game was girls vs boys. The second game was kids vs grown-ups. The last game was me and my son vs hubby and my daughter.

Me and mini me photo bombed by hubby

Me and my baby boy - he's almost taller than me!

And me and my love

Sunday I was busy doing some major organizing around the house. I meal planned our dinners for February, made the weekly grocery shopping list for hubby, paid some bills, sorted mail and did a lot of paper shredding in addition to laundry and helping the kiddos with homework.

Monday morning before work I tried a beginner pilates workout from the Blogilates app I recently downloaded.

The app is free but I paid the .99 cents for the 30 day Beginners Calendar.

On the way into work this happened:

I switched from Weight Watchers back to MyFitness Pal. I couldn't seem to get into the WW groove. In the 3 months I was following WW - my overall weight loss was 0. I actually gained 2 pounds following the plan. I think the point system just didn't work for me. It's back to calorie counting for me.

Monday during lunch I ran for 30 minutes - 2nd workout of the day!

Tuesday during lunch I walked for 40 minutes on the treadmill set to random hills level 3.

Wednesday morning we woke to MORE snow. It wasn't even an inch but I am really sick of these freezing temperatures and this darn snow!

Wednesday was another 30 minute run during lunch.

Thurs workout on the left - Wednesday workout on the right

The ex-husband once again switched my dinner night with the kiddos so I switched around the meal plan. Hubby and I had a yummy fish recipe that called for kalmata olives and tomatoes. And I served it with spinach and some Annie's mac n cheese.

I can't help it - I'm a carb girl. I gotta have my carbs. At least Annie's is better for me than the other boxed mac and cheeses.

Thursday was weigh-in day. DOWN THREE POUNDS!!

And to celebrate that 3 lb loss I tortured myself with Jillian again. My lunchtime workout was strictly to get my step count up so I walked on the treadmill for 25 minutes.

I've been toying with the idea of setting a 10,000 steps a day goal for the month of February but I'm scared of more snow storms keeping me housebound. This year I'm planning to purchase a GOOD treadmill with part of my tax refund.

And finally today - the last day of the month - I took a rest day. I have a 6 1/2 mile half marathon training run on the schedule for tomorrow so I decided to rest my body. The unfortunate thing is my step count for today is going to be lower than usual.

We had office lunch from Noodles and Company today. I had the Pork Med salad with dressing on the side. Yep - more noodles. I'm a total carb addict I tell you!

After lunch I looked out my office window to see a Cookie Truck. Talk about tempting. But I held fast and didn't go down to check it out. Instead I ate two Hershey's kisses from the office candy jar. Doesn't every office have that one person or place you can turn to grab a small piece of candy?

My Friday night was quiet. Hubby is out of town for work. I talked to him on the phone and then to my best friend. I caught up on all of my blog reading in Bloglovin' and caught up my little old blog.

One of my February goals really should be to blog more often.
