Cardio and Steps

This past week has definitely been all about getting my steps in. Hubby bought a FitBit Flex too so I've been trying to keep my step count up so I stay ahead of him in our totals! In addition I've been keeping up with my half marathon training runs. But any strength training workouts have been nonexistent. I definitely need to fix that!

Tuesday

I woke up and was on the treadmill for a run at 5:45am before I woke the kids up and get us all out of the door for the day! 


And then in the evening I walked on the treadmill to make sure I hit my 10K steps.


Wednesday

Once again I was able to wake up and get on the treadmill in the morning. I walked for 40 minutes at 5:30 in the morning!!


Which definitely helped me make my 10K step goal for the day.



Thursday

 I had the evening to myself Thursday night. Hubby was out of town for work and the kiddos were having dinner with their dad so I got my workout in then. I ran 3 miles and then walked for 10 minutes.


Friday

Friday was going to be my "rest" day since my long run was scheduled for Saturday. I got in a lot of "natural" walking throughout the day. I walked to Starbucks to treat myself to a skinny vanilla latte. I walked to grab a salad for lunch. And I walked when I purposely parked extra far away when I dropped my son off at the movies in the evening so I would have to walk to drop him inside of the theater and then have to walk back to my car.

Friday evening I was basically "mom-taxi" - dropping off and then picking up both kids at various different activities and functions. I did squeeze in about 25 minutes at home on the treadmill at a normal walking pace in my "downtime" between dropoffs/pickups.

Saturday

Saturday morning was my longest half marathon training run ever! 1 ran 12 miles! It was challenging, it was tough, but I somehow completed it and survived!

I wear my Garmin so that I can look at my watch to time myself for my one-minute walk breaks that I have to take periodically still.


I also keep my RunKeeper App running because I like to hear the verbal cueing at each mile that I've just finished another mile and also to hear my average pace for the run so far.


My last long run my knees hurt for the following two days and my quads for the two days after that. This time I came home and immediately iced my knees and I had NO pain the next day! Even my quads weren't as sore - my legs must be getting stronger from all the steps I've been getting!


And just for a little perspective - this was my post from exactly one year ago.

Sunday

 I love that my hubby makes me laugh every single day. When we pulled up at the commissary and saw the Oscar Mayer weiner truck he couldn't wait to pose for a picture!  




I changed my phone's lock screen wallpaper. Let's just say wishful thinking for Spring since it was supposed to snow on Tuesday.



My daughter's soccer season has started back up. The awesome thing is that all the games are on one day of the week this season. The last couple of years they have fallen on either Friday, Saturday or on Sunday. I love having them all on one set day of the week - especially since it means no rushing around on Fridays after work or getting up early on Saturdays!

It was COLD as heck! We were definitely bundled up. And yes - those are donkeys - the field
was out in the country!!

After the soccer game I walked for half an hour to maintain my 10K steps a day streak.


And then in the evening I walked one more mile.

Monday


Brrrrr.... can we get to Spring now? My walk to the metro was 14 degrees and then the snow was expected to start falling Tuesday morning.


I took the evening to relax with hubby and we caught up on The Voice in the dvr. I didn't walk on the treadmill. I didn't stress about it. I just enjoyed the rest and the company of my husband.

Tuesday 

 Sometimes I have a tendency to let one rest day or cheat day turn into another and another and then I'm down a path I don't want to be.

Not this time. The very next evening I got in a 3 mile run when I got home from work and hit my 10K steps again.

Wednesday


Yes - we're still battling the cold weather in Maryland. I'm not so patiently anymore waiting on Spring. It's getting REAL old putting on tights, boots and heavy sweaters to go to work in. I'm ready to bust out the capri pants and sandals I tell you!



 I knew I wasn't going to have an opportunity to workout Wednesday after work since it was my dinner night with the kiddos so I packed up my gym stuff and walked on the treadmill during my lunchbreak. 


I obviously have my mind geared towards getting my 10K steps a day but I feel that I really should mix it up again. I need to get in some of the P90X3 dvds and Bikini Body Mommy Challenge workouts that I had been doing. 

I know when I do add in different exercises my steps will lessen and hubby will be beating me in our little competition grrrrrr... but I want to have toned arms and a smaller waistline and the only effective way I know to do that is with cardio AND strength training.

Tonight I'll probably take a rest day and schedule out my April workouts. Hubby leaves for Alaska on Saturday morning so we only have these last two days together before he's gone for a week so maybe I'll take him to dinner tonight since he'll be packing tomorrow.

This morning's weigh-in I was down 1.8 pounds from last week. I've been tracking ALL of my food in MyFitnessPal so if we do go out I'm going to try to still eat sensibly!

Yet ANOTHER 3 Day Weekend

Typically I'm excited for a 3-day weekend but when it is because of snow - I'm totally over it! I'm ready for Spring to just get here already!

Friday night hubby and I headed out for dinner and margaritas at our local Mexican restaurant.


It's a full moon - yes we're goofballs!

And then we came back home...






Saturday morning I broke in our new treadmill with an hour long walk followed by Day 8 of the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge - 12 minutes with hand weights but I only lasted about halfway through. It was really tough!  


After our workouts (hubby jumped on the treadmill too) we headed out to enjoy the beautiful, sunny, 60-something degree day.

We went to the BX at Andrews Air Force Base where I picked up 3 pair of really cute flats. Then we went to the outlets at National Harbor where I picked up 2 more pairs. Now we just need to get this snow and ice off the ground so I can actually wear them. 


After shopping we walked around the Harbor and stopped for a drink and appetizers. It was such a nice, relaxing day.


Sunday morning a 4 mile half marathon training run was on the calendar. I had to choose between my 2 new pair of Asics which one I was going to start breaking in first. I chose the pair on the right! 


Hubby and I went to Ft Meade for our run. I have a 3 mile loop that I run so this time I decided to turn back around after 2 miles to make my 4. As you can see by the picture on the lower left - I missed a turn. When my watch beeped that I had hit 4 miles I had no clue where I was! I ended up walking an extra 1.2 miles until hubby could find me using my React Mobile emergency alert app and picked me up in his car. So much for just getting in 4 miles lol 


Later in the afternoon we had to tackle the crowds and lines at the commissary for our grocery shopping.


I ended the weekend with over 10K steps each day!

Saturday/Sunday

Monday morning we woke up to about another 7 inches of snow. Yuck. I'm just so over it. I REALLY hope this is the last bit of snow we see for a very long time!


I still got my steps in though!! I hopped on the treadmill for a 5K walk and then I did Day 10 of the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge which was the same awful weights workout from Saturday.


Monday

I had an eye appt to check out my new contacts which are working out good. They're expensive as heck though - they're the ones where I can see at a distance but also can see up close when I read. I guess kind of like bifocal contacts? Geez I feel old!

Our Newest Addition

Our new baby came yesterday - check her out!!



Hubby and I ordered a treadmill from Dick's Sporting Goods a couple of weeks ago. As it turns out the "free shipping" means they will ship to you curb and that is it. Luckily hubby was home because the delivery driver was going to leave the box next to our mailbox on the curb. He said for "insurance purposes" he wasn't allowed to come onto our driveway so hubby gave the 5 bucks to at least drop it in our garage.

After work we had a neighbor come over and help hubby move it down into the basement. The package was 250 pounds!

I tried to "help" hubby put it together - I was in charge of reading him the directions but after the 2nd paragraph I was confused so I supported him morally. I sat in the basement with him - drinking my wine and eating chips and dip for the 2 hours it took him to put the treadmill together. Every once in awhile he would need me to hold something in place or hand him something. By the time it was all put together it was too late to actually workout on it but I'll be getting on there this weekend definitely!

Failing to Plan

Friday I was so busy at work that all I had was coffee in the morning and then a late lunch. Unfortunately that led to a not so healthy choice - a chicken quesadilla eaten at my desk.


Saturday morning was March 8th. My creamer expired March 7th. I'm one of those people that has a hard time consuming anything after it's expiration date so I had to have some of hubby's hazelnut creamer in my coffee. 


I did the P90X3 Warrior dvd. It was tough but I only burned 161 calories so I added in the Bikini Body Mommy Challenge Day 3 workout which was a 20 minute HIIT workout. 




I love getting my sweat on at home - I can look as hot and crazy as I want and not worry about how I look.



For "linner" we took the kids to Red Robin. This time I ordered my burger wrapped in lettuce instead of a bun to save on some calories! It got a little messy towards the last few bites but it was delicious and I didn't miss the bread at all. So much so that I had double the french fries. FAIL.




Afterwards we got in a round of mini golf. 






 




We had time to take plenty of pictures because we were playing behind some really slow people. By the time we were finished we weren't full anymore so we went and had frozen yogurt.

Afterwards we went and bowled at the base. 

Lil mini-me decided she was going to "drive".








It's scary that she's only two years away from actually being able to drive legally!

Sunday morning I had a 9.5 mile training run on the schedule. I filled up my water bottles and grabbed some Gu Chomps. It was my 1st time running with either - and they were perfect! I only drank about one of the bottles of water and I ate half of the Gu Chomps at Mile 3.



I always run with my RunKeeper app on and my Garmin watch. I'm not sure why. I think the Garmin is probably more accurate but I like the timing cues I have programmed in RunKeeper. 




I can't believe I did it though! My longest run EVER!  

Look what happens when I don't grocery shop and hubby runs to the store for a few things!

I celebrated with a Bud Light Lime, some Alexia onion rings and some honey bourbon chicken pieces with veggies. 


And I hit over 20K steps for the day on my FitBit! First time ever! 


Monday I had to leave work early to take this pretty girl in to get her braces put on.




It took two hours so I was able to head over to Starbucks for a coffee and some Instagramming while I waited.





Then mini-me and I grabbed lunch at Panera.


Tuesday I didn't go to work because I had to go in for a biopsy. I should have my results in the next 5 days. The wait is the worst part.

I haven't worked out all week and I feel blah about it. Sunday and Monday my knees hurt too much from that long run. Tuesday it was my quads that hurt. And then yesterday it was just my right quad that was a little sore.

I've been logging my foods on MyFitness Pal for the most part and trying to stay within my calories.

This morning's weigh-in I was down a pound - but that's only down a pound from the two I had gained last week. Oh this yo-yo'ing of 5 pounds I've been doing for a year is so discouraging. I need to change something - I just don't want to admit that I know what it is. I need to be better with my food. Plain and simple.

This saying truly speaks to me:


I need to find a realistic eating plan that I can follow and stick to that's going to help me lose some of this extra weight - especially this belly fat. I know what it is too - I need to cut the carbs and processed foods. I have Tosca Reno's "The Eat Clean Diet" book at home that I really should start reading this weekend. 

Hubby and I have no plans for the weekend yet! Except to do our taxes. Ugh.
