Memorial Day Weekend

Thursday night I really didn't feel like working out but I didn't want to ruin my #workitout100 streak so hubby and I went on a 2 mile walk in our neighborhood.

Friday my boss closed the office at noon for Memorial Day Weekend. Hubby was already off for the day.

We went to Ft Meade and I found a dress at the PX to wear to a wedding we're going to in June in New Hampshire. AND it was only $25!! Then we went over to the bar at the bowling alley and had quite a few drinks before we went to the commissary to do our grocery shopping. Unfortunately my #workitout100 streak came to an end on Friday and I had to restart the streak Saturday.

I'm not really sure how so many people are able to actually work out for 100 straight days. I looked at some of the Instagram pictures others posted and some of the "workout" days have an inspirational quote or a iphone Note with the "workout" they did - no photo of a heart rate monitor, or a cardio machine reading. Makes me feel like I'm being TOO honest about actually getting in a true workout 100 days in a row for it to count.

Saturday morning hubby had me go back to Ft Meade with him to run intervals. We walked 1/2 a mile and then ran 1/2 a mile for a total of 4 miles.

A moment of reflection as we passed the Post Cemetery.

When we were done we got ourselves cleaned up and drove to Baltimore to pick up our packets for Sunday's MCVET 10K and then we stopped by hubby's friend's restaurant in Baltimore for a drink and an appetizer.

We didn't stay out long since we were racing at 8am on Sunday. Hubby put some steaks on the grill and we watched the movie "About Last Night" with Kevin Hart.

Pre-race pic

The 10K was TOUGH! This was my 1st time running the 10K. The previous 2 years I had run the 5K - which started an hour earlier than 10K. The race was so much more hilly than the 5K and then it started to get hot since it was later in the morning. I was definitely overdressed in my tights and should have worn shorts or a running skirt. I really wanted to beat my previous 10K time of 1:11 from last year in Annapolis - but I just couldn't do it. I finished in 1:14 - AND the course was actually a little longer than 6.2 miles!

Monday was Memorial Day - the start of this year's Runners World Run Streak (#rwrunstreak). I did the whole thing last year - run at least 1 mile a day from Memorial Day to July 4th. Last year the toughest days for me were the days that it got late and I had to run in the summer heat and humidity or the days that it started thunderstorming and I had to drive to the gym or wait out the storm. At least this year we have a treadmill at home so it SHOULD be easier logistically to get in at least one mile a day.

#rwrunstreak Day 1 - 1 mile neighborhood run

The teens have their 1st dance this week - the 8th grade dance - so we went out shopping for their outfits on Monday. Even Ms. Tomboy asked if I'd take HER dress shopping.

Tuesday was back to work as usual. I waited until the evening to get my #rwrunstreak run in - it was a struggle - but I got it in.

And then I walked a few more minutes so that I could hit 10K steps on my FitBit. Hubby is beating me by about 20K steps this week so I plan to try to catch up to him this week while he's out of town for work.

Drive By Post

Woohoo! My boss is closing the office at noon for Memorial Day Weekend so I have just a few minutes to get a quick post up for the week.

My workouts have been good. I've stuck with getting in a workout every day!

Monday - Lunchtime one mile run and Jessica Smith workout for my arms

Tuesday - 2 mile treadmill run after work

Wednesday - another one mile run and a Jessica Smith ab workout

Thursday - active rest day - 2 mile evening stroll with the hubby in our neighborhood.

In other news - hubby and I registered for the Army 10 miler in October.

And I let a girlfriend of mine talk me into registering for the Navy 5 miler in September.

Hubby and I are also running a 10K on Sunday in Baltimore.

Who am I? When did I turn into this running freak?

My weigh-in yesterday was disappointing - I was up 2 pounds. My clothes are fitting better so I'm going to try not to stress too much about it.

I did read an interesting article in June's issue of Health magazine about carbs and our need for the right kinds of carbs - all information I already knew but I just needed the reassurance before I try to do anything crazy to get these pounds off.

From Health June 2014 issue

I've gone back to tracking all my food in MyFitness Pal. Let's see if I can keep it up over the long weekend!

And finally - here's yesterday's Throwback Thursday picture from 4 years ago. My babies are growing up so fast... and my belly was so small!

Have a happy and safe Memorial Day Weekend and remember the reason for the holiday.

The Weekend

I have a new addiction. It's this game called 2048 that my daughter turned me onto. I was able to avoid Angry Birds and Farmville and all the other games floating around - but not this one. I'm a numbers person and this one drew me in. I spent most of Thursday night playing it.

Friday was a quiet day in the office and a quiet day in the gym at my building. I brought in one of my P90X3 dvds and an old school portable dvd player and got in my workout during lunchtime.

We got out of work early. Mini me's soccer game was cancelled so I took the kids and their friend to dinner at Friday's. Once again I had terrible customer service. I don't know what it is about the restaurants in that part of town that have such poor customer service.

After dinner I dropped the kids off at the movie theatre to see Godzilla with a group of their friends and I went home to hang out with the hubby for a bit.

Saturday morning hubby and I had our 1st 5K of the season. I was happy with my performance.

Check out my splits for the first 2 miles! Mile 3 was where I walked for 45 seconds up a hill. I suck at hills.

I keep all my race bibs and write the date and my time on them after each race - a habit I got from my hubby. I took 3 whole minutes off of my time from the same race last year! Go me! My overall goal for this year is to get to a sub-30 minute 5K - it's "just" another 3 minutes - right?

Mini-me actually had a track meet right next to where our 5K was so I had to drop her off before the 5K and then afterwards we were able to go over and see her run her races.

She ran the 100 and the 400. She placed 5th in the 100 and 2nd in the 400.

That's my mini-me!

After her track meet we stopped at Chipotle to bring home lunch.

After I ate and showered I laid down and took a nice long nap! When I woke up the kiddos asked me to take them to the carnival to hang out with their friends. I packed up my bag with my ipad mini and some magazines to entertain myself so I could camp out at Starbucks in the same shopping center as the Carnival for a couple of hours while the kiddos roamed around with their friends.

Sunday morning hubby wanted to go for a 5 mile run. It was actually on my training schedule for Monday so I pushed it up a day and went with him. It was a terrible run for me. I was hungry, dehydrated and overdressed but I forced my way through it.

This definitely was an example of not every run will be a good run. I'm actually looking forward to the 2 easy miles on today's schedule!

Big Hair Again

So yeah - remember the other day when I posted the picture of my hair all straightened out?

THIS is what happened after I washed it the 1st time.

$80 down the drain. I was hot! I texted my hairdresser this picture and told her "I guess the process doesn't work on everyone's hair". What I got wasn't supposed to keep my hair straight but it was supposed to take down some of the volume when I let it dry naturally. Ummmm... my hair looked JUST like this when I walked INTO the salon.

She offered me a free haircut next time or a different technique which costs 3 times what I just paid her and she would "credit" me what I already paid. I told her I'd pass for now - which sucks because this is the second time in a row I've gone to her and haven't been satisfied with what she has done to my hair after the fact. I hate finding new hairdressers too!

On another note -

I fell off the #workitout100 challenge wagon again on Wednesday. I took the day off from working out. I just wasn't motivated. So here I go - restarting it again - Round 3...

I woke up early yesterday and did a short Bikini Body Mommy Challenge arm workout followed by a 12 minute treadmill walk.

And then at lunch I had to do a Runkeeper Sub 65 Min 10K training 3 Mile Run + Strides. I was drenched! I don't think the AC in the gym was working completely.

And then I proceeded to eat too much at dinner and snack while I was cooking it. If only I could get my exercise AND eating right to get on the same page!

Win Some Lose Some

Tuesday my boss was going out for lunch with a big group of people and I knew he would be longer than an hour so I snuck in a little extra long workout during my lunch break.

I'm trying to follow the Runkeeper Sub 65 minute 10K training plan and the day called for a 4 mile run. I had to complete it on the treadmill because it was just too freaking hot outside by noon - but I did it!

And then I proceeded to eat a whole bag of LifeSaver Gummies on the way home from stopping at Michael's to pick up some fake grass for my son's science project.

Give Me All the Food

My Work It Out 100 Challenge was going along so great

A little P90X3 Agility X

A 3 mile treadmill run on the 5K setting to simulate hills

Thursday my co-worker friend and I walked a couple of blocks over to the Freshfarm Market by the White House.

My friend bought Baklava for the office. I ate one piece.

40 minute slow walk to get over 10K steps for the day

Friday morning I treated myself to a Starbucks.

I bought myself a meatless salad for lunch. It had garbanzo beans, mushrooms, tomatoes, cucumbers, feta cheese and a little balsamic vinaigrette dressing.

I truly didn't feel like working out Friday night but I forced myself to do a short Fitness Blender You Tube arm workout. I definitely need to add more strength workouts to my schedule. My arms were so weak I had to go from using my 5 lb weights to using my 3 lb weights.

Hubby ordered pizza while I was in the basement exercising. I indulged.

Saturday morning I got my hair done. Then hubby and I went out for the day. We stopped by the PX at Ft Meade and then went to Maryland Live Casino. We both went with our set amount of money. I lost all of mine - not as fast as I normally do though. Hubby gave me one of his $22 vouchers. I got it all the way up to $178 playing the slots... and then I lost it all. I should have cashed out. Shoulda, woulda, coulda...

When we were done gambling we went to Bobby's Burger Palace. We LOVE the burgers there - and the sauce for the fries!

When we got home I had hubby take a picture of me - I got carded! Yes - this 45 year old got carded!

Mother's Day on Sunday I treated myself to a pedicure while hubby drove up to Delaware to see his mom. Mini-me had a soccer game at 4pm so I stayed back. Yes - a soccer game at 4pm on Mother's Day - how rude!

After my pedicure I went to the commissary to do the grocery shopping. It was so nice and quiet. I guess most of the mother mom's got the day off from the grocery shopping duties!

I had what I thought was a perfect dinner plan worked out for my Mother's Day dinner. During halftime of the soccer game I went online to Carrabba's website and ordered all of our meals. It was 4:30 and I set pick-up time for 5:40.

That was the only part of the meal that went smoothly. We got their right at 5:40, waited in the car 10 minutes, no one came out to greet us so we had to walk up to the carryout door. I paid for my meal and was told it wasn't ready yet but they would bring it out to me. 20 minutes later I finally asked a manager what was going on with my order. He looked into it and we got our order soon after. Or should I say - MOST of our order.

I was in such a rush to get home I didn't check my order. It was a disaster:

I asked for NO peas on hubby's dinner

One little loaf of bread for 4 adult entrees - NO olive oil, just spices.

No side of alfredo for my daughter's meal that I paid extra for.

After dinner we went out for frozen yogurt - at least that wasn't messed up!

The kids have turned me onto a new-to-me game called 2048. It's addicting.

Monday mini-me had an orthodontist appointment. It was right next to a new restaurant that opened up - Grilled Cheese & Co.

One would think that a restaurant dedicated to the grilled cheese sandwich would have a good grilled cheese sandwich. Sadly, I was mistaken. Me and mini-me ordered the original grilled cheese sandwich and it was just okay - nothing to rave about, nothing to dream about ordering again.

The Original

My son ordered the Smashed Meatball sandwich and it looked delicious.

For my "dessert" I had a little of the Carrabba's desserts that we hadn't eaten since we went out for frozen yogurt.

Can you tell my eating had totally fallen off the tracks? Along with my working out?

My son needed me to bring him out to Michael's to pick up some stuff for a class project he's working on. I couldn't resist going through the $1 and $2 bins. I came home with these goodies. I'm going to try to send handwritten notes a little more often to my friends and family.

And before I could let my day end - I HAD to get in a workout. I restarted my Work It Out 100 challenge by running 2 miles and then doing a Bikini Body Mommy Challenge arm workout.

Next step - getting my eating back under control!
